It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what† (Lee 149). Atticus is the best example of what courage is this book for three major reasons. First, he is a single parent, secondly he defended Tom Robinson, and finally because he was willing to spare Mr. Arthur suffering by allowing his son, Jem, to take the responsibility of Mr. Bob Ewell’s Death. Atticus Finch is the best example of what courage is in To Kill a Mockingbird because he is a single parent. Jem and Scout’s mother passed when Scout was two years old. Besides her passing Atticus has always given it his most to be there for his children. Speaking of animals, they ‘re more likely to suffer from mercy- killing than mercy-death. And that method is basically another form of murder and should be banned. Just imagine, when a human patient in the hospital know he’s going to be put to death, he cried and beg the doctor not to let him die, not kill him.
